PESHAWAR : Divisional Superintendent (DS) Pakistan Railways Peshawar, accompanied by divisional officers, visited the historic Landi Kotal Railway Section to inspect encroachments on railway land, assess the condition of heritage buildings and review the preservation of historical railway assets.
The visit aimed to strengthen the protection of railway land, assess the condition of historic structures and highlight the cultural and historical significance of the railway section.
During the visit, the DS Peshawar also inspected the historical gallery at Landi Kotal Railway Station, which houses valuable documents, photographs and memorabilia documenting the railway’s rich past. He reviewed the historical records, which reflect the development of Pakistan Railways and the evolution of the railway network across the subcontinent.
The renovation of Landi Kotal Railway Station has been completed with the support of the Pakistan Army to preserve its historical character and enhance its appearance.
The Landi Kotal Railway Section holds considerable historical significance owing to its unique geographical location, rich heritage and challenging mountainous terrain. Its historic buildings and preserved records stand as enduring reminders of the region’s railway legacy and represent a valuable heritage for future generations.
During the inspection, the DS Peshawar also took notice of the deteriorated condition of Jamrud Railway Station and directed the relevant officials to commence renovation work the following day. The initiative is intended to improve the station’s condition and ensure the upkeep of this important railway asset.
The visit reflects Pakistan Railways’ focus on protecting railway land, preserving historical infrastructure and improving station facilities. The concerned officials were directed to take the necessary measures to safeguard the railway’s heritage and maintain its historic assets for future generations.
