PESHAWAR: In a significant step toward enhancing emergency response, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has acquired advanced drones to assist in rescue efforts during flood situations and other emergencies. These drones will be used to deliver critical supplies such as life jackets, ropes, and other essential rescue materials to affected areas. On Tuesday, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) showcased the newly acquired drone technology to Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah in Peshawar. Secretary Relief, DG PDMA, and other senior officials were also present at the demonstration. Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Secretary highlighted the government’s comprehensive strategy to boost emergency preparedness across the province. “We have reviewed our emergency response plan and are accelerating measures to reduce response time,” he said. “Efforts are also underway to enhance the operational capabilities of rescue teams.” The Chief Secretary noted that local communities will be trained for emergency response, and tourist destinations are being mandated to ensure the availability of essential safety equipment, including boats, ropes, and life jackets. In addition to drone deployment, the government is digitizing its warning systems to improve early response. A mobile application called ‘Relief Pulse’ is being launched, along with integrated social media alerts and a centralized dashboard to monitor and manage emergencies in real time. The KP government is acquiring two types of drones: One capable of transporting up to 30 kilograms of supplies like life jackets and ropes. Another equipped with technology specifically designed to assist in saving human lives during rescue missions. These initiatives mark a transformative shift in how the province prepares for and responds to natural disasters, especially during the monsoon and flood seaso
