PESHAWAR: Central Secretary General of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muhammad Humayun Khan, extended heartfelt birthday greetings to President Asif Ali Zardari, praising him as a wise, patient, and visionary leader who has played a historic role in shaping Pakistan’s democratic evolution.
In his message, Humayun Khan noted that President Zardari not only promoted tolerance, reconciliation, and democratic continuity but also stood firm against the tides of dictatorship. His political strategy, policy of national reconciliation, and personal sacrifices, Khan said, will be remembered in golden words in Pakistan’s history.
“President Zardari’s life is a shining example of sacrifice, patience, and unwavering commitment to the democratic ideals of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” said Humayun Khan. He further emphasized that Zardari remains the only civilian president in Pakistan’s history to complete his constitutional term and voluntarily transfer power, a landmark step in the country’s democratic journey.
During his tenure, President Zardari oversaw the 18th Constitutional Amendment, abolition of Article 58(2)(b), and a significant devolution of powers to Parliament—reforms that laid the groundwork for stronger democratic institutions.
Khan also praised the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) launched under Zardari’s leadership, which continues to provide crucial support to millions of families. He further highlighted Zardari’s visionary economic steps, such as handing over Gwadar Port to China and initiating the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
On the foreign policy front, President Zardari played a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s relations with China, the United States, Russia, and Arab nations. In recent times, he united all democratic forces to successfully lead a vote of no-confidence against the Imran Khan-led government, reinforcing parliamentary supremacy.
Humayun Khan concluded by stating that today’s PPP leadership, under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, is carrying forward the democratic mission envisioned by President Zardari and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
