PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Junior Squash Championship 2025, marking Independence Day celebrations commenced at the Qamar Zaman Squash Complex, Qayyum Stadium Peshawar More than 150 players from across the province are participating in the Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Girls Under-15 categories.
The opening ceremony’s chief guest AIPS Asia Secretary General and senior journalist Amjad Aziz Malik formally inaugurated the event by cutting the ribbon. Also present were squash legend Qamar Zaman, former world number two Mohibullah, Wazir Khan, head coach and organiser Munawar Zaman along with other notable personalities. The guests cut an Independence Day cake and prayed for the country’s peace and prosperity.
Speaking at the opening Amjad Aziz Malik praised the provincial squash association for consistently organising tournaments over the years which he said has contributed to the improvement in players’ international rankings. He expressed hope that Pakistani players would once again regain their lost glory on the world stage, adding that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has no shortage of talent it only needs to be discovered.
According to results from the opening day, in the Girls Under-15 category Kashaf Shams, Maliha Shah, Seerat Sajjad, Hiba Imtiaz, Zainab Jilani, Alishba Niaz, Wajiha Altaf, Safa Ahmed, Sadia Zahoor, Hosanna, Sadaf Afridi, Zoya Ali Naz, Parkha Ahmed, Zainab Bibi, Romesa Jana and Hadia Farman advanced to the next round.
In the Under-13 category Ayan Mehboob, Muhammad Zaid, Sulih Khan and Arman Ali won their matches. In Under-15, Danish Sikandar, Irfan Ehsan, Shazif Tahir and Shayan Zaib claimed victories, while in Under-17, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Talha, Khizar Hayat and Arman Ali Khan emerged winners.The championship finals will be held on August 13.
