PESHAWAR: As part of the Independence Day celebrations a grand sports festival was organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Sports, Regional Sports Office Peshawar and the district administration. Yesterday, a thrilling and action-packed kabaddi match was held between Peshawar and Charsadda at the main ground of Qayyum Stadium. Thousands of fans from both cities turned up to witness the exciting contest.
The chief guests of the match were Provincial Minister for Sports Syed Fakhar Jahan and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sarmad Salim Akram Before the match chief guests met the players.
Speaking on the occasion Provincial Minister for Sports Syed Fakhar Jahan said that the aim of organising sports events on Independence Day is to engage youth in positive activities while also making them aware of the sacrifices of their forefathers. He said that Pakistan was achieved after immense sacrifices and now its protection, development, and progress are the responsibility of the youth.
Responding to a question the minister noted that kabaddi is our traditional sport and announced that provincial and national-level kabaddi competitions will be organised in the coming days. He added that various events are being held under the Directorate of Sports across all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
In the fiercely contested match, Charsadda edged past Peshawar by 35 points to 33. At the conclusion the chief guests presented runner-up and winner’s trophies to the captains of the Peshawar and Charsadda teams.
