Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines
to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
On the Occasion of the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence
On the occasion of the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, I extend my warmest greetings to the Filipino community in Pakistan, our Pakistani friends, and all those who join us in commemorating this important milestone in the history of the Philippine nation.
This year’s theme, “Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” (Freedom. Future. History.), reminds us that the story of every nation is shaped by the sacrifices of those who came before us, the challenges of the present, and the aspirations we hold for future generations. It invites us to honor the struggles that secured our freedom, draw wisdom from the lessons of history, and work together to build a future worthy of those who came before us.
For the Philippines, Independence Day is a celebration of the Filipino people’s enduring struggle for freedom, dignity, and self-determination. It is a time to honor the courage and sacrifice of our forebears and to reflect upon the values that continue to guide our nation: unity, resilience, democracy, justice, and service to others.
In many ways, the Philippines and Pakistan share similar historical journeys. Both nations emerged from periods of foreign rule and undertook the difficult task of building independent states amid profound political, economic, and social challenges. Both peoples understand that independence is not merely a historical event, but a continuing responsibility—one that requires constant effort to strengthen institutions, uphold the rule of law, promote development, and secure a better future for succeeding generations.
Our two countries also share a deep appreciation for national identity, cultural heritage, and the aspirations of ordinary citizens for peace, dignity, and opportunity. These common experiences have helped foster the goodwill and mutual respect that have characterized Philippines-Pakistan relations for more than seven decades.
As we reflect on our history, we are reminded that freedom is sustained not only through the defense of sovereignty, but also through our commitment to the values that give meaning to independence. History teaches us that societies flourish when they respect the dignity and human rights of every person, uphold justice and equality before the law, and cultivate compassion, empathy, and concern for the welfare of others.
The lessons of the past remain relevant today. Across generations and across continents, humanity has witnessed the suffering caused by hatred, discrimination, intolerance, and the abuse of power. These forces seek to divide peoples and weaken societies. Our collective responsibility is to reject such divisions and instead promote mutual respect, understanding, and peaceful coexistence. The future belongs not to fear and exclusion, but to cooperation, dialogue, and our shared humanity.
The Philippines believes that genuine progress is measured not only by economic growth and technological advancement, but also by the strength of our institutions, the protection of fundamental freedoms, and the spirit of malasakit—care and concern for one’s fellow human beings. It is this spirit that enables nations and communities to remain resilient, united, and hopeful in the face of uncertainty.
As we look toward the future, the Philippines remains committed to building a nation that is innovative, inclusive, and resilient, while working with partners around the world to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development. We believe that countries such as the Philippines and Pakistan have much to gain through cooperation, dialogue, and stronger people-to-people ties.
Today, opportunities for collaboration between our two nations continue to grow in areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, education, labor, tourism, and cultural exchange. The Embassy of the Philippines in Islamabad remains committed to further strengthening these ties and advancing a partnership that contributes to the prosperity and well-being of both our peoples.
As we celebrate Philippine Independence Day, we honor our history, embrace our future, and reaffirm our faith in the enduring values of freedom, human dignity, and national sovereignty. May the friendship between the Philippines and Pakistan continue to flourish, and may our peoples continue to draw inspiration from the shared belief that nations achieve their greatest progress when guided by justice, compassion, perseverance, and hope.
On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Islamabad, I wish everyone a meaningful and joyous celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Pakistan-Philippines Friendship Zindabad!
