PROVINCE REPORT

PESHAWAR: A focal person of MPA Fazal Elahi, Jameel Nazim, along with protesters allegedly stormed Rehman Baba Grid Station, assaulted and threatened PESCO staff, and forcibly switched on several high-loss feeders.

According to a PESCO spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 10:30pm on Saturday night, when Jameel Nazim allegedly entered the grid station with protesters and forced staff to restore power to the Yakatoot, Chana Dagh, Sorezai Bala, Qalandar Baba, Akhunabad, Jameel Chowk, Chairman Office and Shaloozan feeders.

PESCO said these are high-loss feeders, with losses exceeding 80 percent on most feeders, primarily due to electricity theft and non-payment of dues. The company said load management is therefore carried out on these feeders to protect the distribution system.

The spokesperson said electricity supply from the grid is managed according to a carefully planned strategy to prevent system overloading. Excessive use of air conditioners through illegal connections during nighttime hours can put additional pressure on the system.

PESCO warned that forcibly energising all high-loss feeders could overload the grid and potentially damage the high-voltage transformer, disrupting electricity supply from the entire grid station.

PESCO authorities have taken notice of the incident and submitted an application to the relevant police station for registration of a case against those involved.
