Thrilling Volleyball & Badminton Finals Mark Independence Festival

PESHAWAR: In line with the directives of the federal government, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) organized the “Battle for Freedom – Pakistan Independence Sports Festival” at the PSB Coaching Centre Peshawar, mirroring similar events held across the country. The festival featured exciting contests in volleyball and badminton, with athletes displaying remarkable skill and competitive spirit.

The closing ceremony was graced by Director PSB Coaching Centre Peshawar, Muhammad Akram Bhatti, and squash legend and former PSB Director, Mohib Ullah Khan. Also present were squash coach Shehzad Mohib, Superintendent Muhammad Suleman, Rahat Ali, PSB volleyball coach Wasif Ullah, along with other staff members and players.

In the women’s singles badminton final, Lena Khalil overcame Umaima in a well-fought contest. The volleyball event saw four teams battle for glory, with Red and Blue teams advancing to the final after intense semi-finals. In a nail-biting championship match, the Red team clinched victory over the Blue team, lifting the trophy with an outstanding performance.

Addressing the ceremony, Director Muhammad Akram Bhatti said that Independence Day is a reminder of sacrifice, unity, and hard work. “Sports teach discipline, resilience, and teamwork. We must promote healthy activities among our youth so they can bring pride to the nation,” he added.

Squash legend Mohib Ullah Khan praised the talent on display, noting that Pakistan has earned global recognition in sports. “To sustain this success, we must continuously encourage and support talented players. Today’s matches prove that our youth possess exceptional skills, and with the right opportunities, they can raise Pakistan’s flag high on the international stage,” he remarked.

The event concluded with Director Muhammad Akram Bhatti distributing trophies and certificates to the winning teams. Participants and guests lauded the organizers for the successful hosting of the festival.
