Peshawar: The Peshawar Inter-Clubs Weightlifting Tournament officially kicked off at Qayyum Stadium, Peshawar, with the aim of promoting weightlifting and identifying emerging talent for the upcoming Under-21 Games. Weightlifters from all registered clubs of Peshawar are participating and showcasing their skills in the event.
The opening ceremony was graced by Regional Sports Officer Peshawar, Kashif Farhan, as the chief guest. A large gathering of players, coaches, and sports enthusiasts attended the ceremony, including Provincial Weightlifting Association President Shiraz Muhammad and Provincial Karate Association Senior Vice President Khalid Noor.
Addressing the participants, Regional Sports Officer Kashif Farhan emphasized that weightlifting plays a vital role in the physical and mental development of youth. He stated that such tournaments not only promote healthy sporting activities but also provide a strong platform for talented athletes to progress further. He assured continued support from the provincial sports department and Peshawar division for the encouragement of young players.
Provincial Weightlifting Association President Shiraz Muhammad, in his address, said that the primary objective of the inter-club tournament is to strengthen the sport of weightlifting in Peshawar and to select the best athletes for the forthcoming Under-21 Games. He highlighted that competitive events are essential for enhancing technical skills and preparing athletes for national-level competitions.
He further added that the Weightlifting Association will continue organizing similar events in the future to ensure maximum opportunities for young and emerging players.
It is noteworthy that the final competition of the Peshawar Inter-Clubs Weightlifting Tournament will be held on January 28, after which outstanding performers will be awarded for their achievements.
