karachi: What initially appeared to be a robbery turned into a tale of betrayal as police revealed that the killer of a woman and her three children was the victim’s husband brother in law. On Monday night, the bodies of a woman and her three children were found inside their residence in Sector 7-D, Surjani Town. Police said all four victims had sustained fatal injuries to the head.
Addressing a press conference DIG West Irfan Baloch said the suspect, identified as Humayun has been arrested and has confessed to the murders during interrogation. According to a statement given to police, Humayun switched off his mobile phone before going to Mehwish’s house. He left his motorcycle at home and travelled there in a Chingchi rickshaw. On the day of the incident, humayun reached Mehwish house between 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, knowing that the woman’s husband would not be present at home.
Police said the accused harboured ill intentions towards the victim and allegedly attempted to assault her. When she resisted, he brutally murder her. When the 18 month old girl began crying, the suspect allegedly picked her up and struck her against a wall, killing her. At about 03:00 pm, two other children returned home from a Madrassa. Humayun opened the door for them and also killed them. After the killings he allegedly washed himself in the bathroom to remove blood from his clothes. Police said he also washed the alleged murder weapon and cleaned the crime scene. To mislead investigators, the accused attempted to stage the murders as a robbery. However, police grew suspicious during the initial examination of the crime scene.
The case has been successfully solved by the District West Police under the supervision of SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi. The investigation team adopted modern and technical footprints, investigators simultaneously collected statements from neighbours and relatives. Two witnesses a man and a woman later told investigators that they had seen Humayun leaving Mehwish’s house on the day of the killing. DIG Baloch said expanding the investigation, which eventually led to the suspect’s arrest. After interrogation, the suspect was taken into custody and he confessed to the murders.
