PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Youth Organization Deputy Information Secretary Muhammad Irfan Afridi has called for the reorganization and reactivation of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) organizations to strengthen public outreach ahead of the upcoming local government and general elections.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Times, Afridi said strong grassroots organizations were essential for maintaining close contact with the people and ensuring effective participation in election campaigns. He described the PPP as Pakistan’s largest democratic party, with a long history of sacrifices for democracy, constitutional supremacy and public rights.
Afridi praised President Asif Ali Zardari for his political leadership and expressed confidence that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would become the country’s future prime minister. He also commended Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi for his public service and efforts to address people’s issues.
He praised Senator Rubina Khalid for carrying forward Shaheed Benazir Bhutto’s vision through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), saying millions of deserving women had benefited from the initiative.
Afridi said the Pakistan Peoples Youth Organization was providing an important platform for young people, adding that youth would play a decisive role in shaping Pakistan’s political future.
He criticized the KP government over what he described as failures in addressing law and order, unemployment, inflation and development issues. He also termed the campaign for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan a political exercise that, in his view, had failed to gain nationwide momentum.
Afridi said PPP workers would continue to uphold the political legacy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and work to strengthen the party ahead of the forthcoming elections.
