Peshawar: Renowned poet, writer, and broadcaster Laiq Zada Laiq (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) continues to be remembered as one of the most influential figures in Pashto literature and broadcasting.
A literary gathering was recently held in his remembrance, bringing together leading poets, writers, scholars, and artists who paid rich tributes to his lifelong services to Pashto language and culture.
The event was presided over by senior poet and playwright Saadullah Jan Barq, while Professor Dr. Yar Muhammad Maghmum, former Vice Principal of Edwards College Peshawar, was the chief guest.
Among the distinguished participants were Professor Dr. Nasrullah Jan Wazir, former Director of Pashto Academy, University of Peshawar; Professor Dr. Sherzman Seemab; Dr. Shahab Aziz Arman; Masood Ahmad Shah, former Program Manager PTV Peshawar; Nazir Gul Ustad, renowned artist and musician; Dr. Basir Bedar Story; and Waqar Laiq, Deputy General Secretary and Niaz Literary Singer. The ceremony was coordinated by Amjad Ali Khadim, Vice Chairman of Niaz Literary Tower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speakers shed light on Laiq Zada Laiq’s artistic and literary contributions, describing him as a poet whose words combined emotional strength with cultural wisdom. They said Laiq’s poetry gave Pashto literature a modern tone while keeping its classical roots intact.
“Laiq Sahib’s writings and thoughts will always be remembered for their sincerity and beauty,” said one of the participants.
President of the ceremony Saadullah Jan Barq praised Dr. Muhammad Aftab for organizing a meaningful event and for promoting literary culture through remembrance gatherings of great writers.
Prominent scholars and artists shared their memories of Laiq Zada Laiq, recalling his simplicity, dedication, and his role as a mentor for emerging poets. “He gave Pashto poetry a new identity through his pen,” said another speaker.
Among those present were Dr. Samiullah, Haji Irshad, Abbas Laiq, Jan Muhammad Jani, Dr. Siraj Safi, Bilal Shaifa, and other literary and cultural personalities.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Muhammad Aftab, author, researcher, and broadcaster, thanked all participants for joining the event. He said, “Laiq Sahib’s art and ideas will forever live in the heart of Pashto literature.”
