PESHAWAR: Special Assistant for Information and Public Relations, Shafi Jan, chaired an important meeting regarding FM radio stations operating under the Information Department.

Secretary for Information Matiullah Khan and other concerned officers attended the meeting. During the session, the Special Assistant was given a detailed briefing on the establishment, objectives, and role of Pakhtunkhwa radio stations in promoting the national narrative.

Shafi Jan directed the authorities to prepare a proper legal framework for radio transmission in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He emphasized that Pakhtunkhwa Radio broadcasting should be extended to every area of the province to ensure wider public access to information.

He also instructed officials to establish five more FM radio stations in order to expand broadcasting services across the province.

Speaking on the occasion, Shafi Jan said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the only province in the country that has a community FM radio network. He added that radio plays an important role in strengthening the national narrative, maintaining law and order awareness, disseminating information during natural disasters, and addressing other important public matters.

Officials informed the meeting that 10 FM radio stations are currently active across the province, including tribal districts, under the Information Department.

The Special Assistant directed that more effective steps should be taken to increase the coverage of existing radio stations. He further stressed the need to install modern and high-quality transmitters at Pakhtunkhwa Radio Peshawar.

He also instructed the concerned department to launch a website and mobile application for the radio stations at the earliest.
