MARDAN: SP Investigation Mardan Maria Mustafa has said that 130 murder cases, 170 attempted murder cases, and 90 cases involving various types of sexual crimes were registered in Mardan during the past three months. She said that most of the cases have been successfully traced through modern investigative techniques, while some cases are still under investigation.
Addressing the Meet the Press programme at the Mardan Press Club, Maria Mustafa said that various measures were being taken to improve the quality of investigations. However, she noted that a shortage of staff in the investigation department remained an issue, and efforts were underway to address the shortage.
She said that one of the reasons for the failure of investigations in some cases was the registration of incorrect FIRs by members of the public that did not reflect the actual facts. She added that in case of any complaint regarding investigation personnel, citizens could approach the relevant DSP or contact her directly.
The SP Investigation said that during her previous posting as SP City, special front desks for women had been established at various police stations in the city and suburban areas. Female ASI officers were deployed at these desks to facilitate women.
She said that following the establishment of special front desks for women, the registration of cases involving women had increased, which indicated greater public trust in the police.
