TANK: Three traffic police personnel were martyred and two passersby injured in a terrorist attack in Tank, plunging the district into grief and concern.
According to sources, the traffic police personnel were on routine patrol along the Wazirabad-Wana Road when suspected terrorists opened fire on them. The martyred personnel were identified as Gul Amin, Saleem Shah and police driver Fayyaz.
The bodies of the martyred policemen and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, Tank, where the injured passersby received medical treatment.
Sources said the attackers allegedly took away the police pickup and government-issued weapons after the attack. The vehicle was later abandoned. Police and security agencies were investigating the incident and working to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack.
Citizens and public circles expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said continued terrorist attacks in Tank and other areas of Dera Division had created fear and insecurity among local residents.
Residents said several areas, including Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Kulachi, Panyala, Paharpur, Darazinda and Lakki, continued to face security challenges. They stressed the need for effective measures to protect police personnel and civilians and restore lasting peace in the region.
Public representatives and local residents called upon the government and law-enforcement agencies to adopt an effective strategy against terrorism and strengthen security arrangements.
Residents also called for a review of existing security and peace-building measures, saying that despite peace jirgas and other initiatives, continued incidents required further practical steps to improve security.
