PESHAWAR: Chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Veterans Cricket Association, Haji Sabit Khan, has said that sports journalists play a vital role in the promotion of sports, encouragement of athletes, and strengthening of sports culture in society. He noted that increased media coverage has made sports grounds more active and helped address athletes’ issues, crediting newspapers, magazines, and sports reporters for this positive change.
He expressed these views while addressing the 19th anniversary ceremony of The Sports Plus. The event was attended by prominent figures including Hayat Ullah Advocate, Nadir Khawaja, Asim Sheeraz, Shahid Afridi, Azmat Ullah and other members of the association.
Haji Sabit Khan said that 25 to 30 years ago, sports were often considered a waste of time, but due to the tireless efforts and constructive reporting of sports journalists, perceptions have changed significantly. Today, parents and teachers actively encourage children to participate in sports and physical activities.
He praised sports writers for their dedication, sincerity, and passion, stating that their work reflects a deep love for the field. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the promotion and development of sports and pledged full cooperation to further strengthen The Sports Plus magazine.
On the occasion, speakers including Nadir Khawaja, Hayat Ullah Advocate, and Azmat Ullah reiterated their commitment to continue serving sports and athletes. Hayat Ullah Advocate urged both provincial and federal governments to allocate advertisement quotas for magazines, similar to those provided to newspapers, to ensure their financial sustainability and professional growth.
The ceremony concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the 19th anniversary of The Sports Plus.
