Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Tariq Mehmood Ghouri, Central Secretary Information of the Pakistan Peoples Party Human Rights Cell, has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the tragic flash flood incident in Swat, which claimed the lives of 15 members of a single family.

“This heartbreaking loss of life has left me profoundly saddened,” he stated. “Unfortunately, this is not the first time such a tragedy has occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The affected family remained stranded for several hours without help—this reflects grave state negligence and administrative failure.”

He further said that the protection of tourists and citizens is the foremost responsibility of the state. “Natural disasters cannot be entirely prevented, but timely and effective precautionary measures can certainly save precious lives,” he added.

Tariq Ghouri described the incident as a result of 13 years of incompetence and poor governance by the PTI-led government in KP. “Every year, similar tragedies take place, yet the KP government limits itself to issuing statements instead of taking practical steps.”

He urged the provincial government to immediately implement an effective disaster management system, upgrade rescue services, and ensure the safety of tourist destinations.

Tariq Mehmood Ghouri also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and demanded that the government provide financial and moral support to the victims’ families.
