TIRAH (Khyber Agency): At least three people were killed and 16 others injured when violent protests erupted in the Tirah region of Khyber district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following the alleged killing of a child by a mortar shell that struck a residential house, local sources reported.

Angry demonstrators attempted to torch a hospital and storm the premises of security forces. In the ensuing chaos, a military vehicle was set on fire by protestors, significantly escalating the unrest in the volatile region.

Elected representatives from the area, including members of the Provincial and National Assemblies, rushed to Dogra Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar to visit the injured and assess the situation on the ground.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued by the military or civil administration regarding the incident or the identity of those responsible for the shelling.

Tensions have been simmering in the tribal belt, with tribal elders and political leaders strongly opposing the possibility of renewed military operations in the area. The situation remains highly precarious, with fears of further escalation if official intervention is delayed.

Local voices are calling for an independent investigation into the child’s death and urging restraint to avoid further bloodshed.
