PESHAWAR: U.S. Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (UGRAD) alumnus Roohullah, in collaboration with the University of Peshawar’s Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies, successfully organized a multi-day sports event and peacebuilding workshop, fostering harmony and leadership among youth from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The initiative, funded through a U.S. Embassy alumni network grant, engaged over 170 young participants from Peshawar, Bannu, Kurram, Kohat, and Khyber. Through a series of competitive sports matches and interactive peacebuilding sessions, the event highlighted the powerful role of sports in bridging divides, encouraging teamwork, and promoting unity in diverse communities.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, U.S. Consulate Peshawar’s Public Affairs Officer Robert Tate emphasized the unifying spirit of sports, stating, “Sports create a common ground where people of different backgrounds can come together in friendship and goodwill.” He also connected the local efforts to global sporting events, mentioning the upcoming FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, both hosted by the United States.
The event served as an inspiring example of how alumni of exchange programs continue to contribute positively to their communities, applying their global experiences to address local challenges.
