PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-21 Games concluded successfully, with players from the Peshawar region delivering a dominant performance to secure first position by winning a total of 189 medals. The medal haul included 124 gold, 43 silver and 22 bronze medals, making Peshawar the overall champions of the mega sporting event.
Malakand region secured second position with a total of 97 medals, including 18 gold, 31 silver and 48 bronze, while Mardan region claimed third place by winning 85 medals comprising 14 gold, 26 silver and 45 bronze medals. Kohat region was awarded the Fair Play Trophy for its exemplary sportsmanship during the games.
Advisor to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Tarand, Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tashfeen Haider, Additional DG Sports Rashida Ghaznavi, and other dignitaries visited various venues, encouraged the athletes, and distributed cash prizes and trophies among the position holders.
In other standings, DI Khan region finished fourth with 65 medals (14 gold, 19 silver, 32 bronze), Hazara region secured fifth position with 104 medals (13 gold, 36 silver, 55 bronze), Bannu region stood sixth with 84 medals (12 gold, 27 silver, 45 bronze), while Kohat region placed seventh with 77 medals, including 12 gold, 24 silver and 41 bronze medals.
More than 5,000 male and female athletes from seven regions of the province participated in the Under-21 Games, which featured competitions in 18 women’s and 38 men’s sports disciplines. The mega event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi at the Peshawar Sports Complex. Special competitions, including standing cricket for special needs athletes and events for short-statured players, were also part of the games, highlighting inclusivity and broad participation.
