ABBOTTABAD: The Azadi Cup Squash Championship has commenced at the Jan Sher Khan Squash Complex in Abbottabad, with prominent social figure Malik Ghulam Murtaza Awan formally inaugurating the tournament.
According to District Squash Association Director Tariq Mahmood, eight matches were played on the opening day. Lal defeated Mehtab 3-1, Dr. Naveed beat Ishtiaq 3-0, Mustafa defeated Abdul Hadi 3-1, and Abbas overcame Abdullah Qadir 3-0.
In other matches, Tahmas defeated Ehsan 3-1, Salman beat Iftikhar, Koshah Mir defeated Ahmed 3-0, while Obaidullah also won his match.
On the occasion, former DG Sports Tariq Mahmood introduced Malik Ghulam Murtaza Awan to the participating players.
Speaking to the players, Awan said sports play an important role in the development of society and help enhance the mental and physical capabilities of young people. He said promoting sporting activities could also help keep youth away from negative activities.
