PESHAWAR: A comprehensive training session on “Business and Human Rights” under the EU-supported Rights of Pakistan Phase II was held at Serena Hotel Peshawar. The session was organized by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the Department of Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The training was attended by focal persons from key stakeholder institutions, including line departments such as Industry, Labour and Social Welfare, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Management Company, universities, the Ombudsman for Harassment of Women Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as prominent NGOs and civil society organizations. The UNDP technical expert and his team conducted an in-depth session covering international standards, national frameworks, and practical implementation of Business and Human Rights. The training will continue tomorrow.
In his welcome remarks, Ghulam Ali, Director General Law and Human Rights Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights for all segments of society. He emphasized that the National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights (NAP-BHR), currently under review, requires meaningful and inclusive consultations with all relevant stakeholders before its final approval.
He further highlighted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the only province with a functional institutional human rights system established at the district level. Human Rights Units are operational in all districts under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioners (Relief and Human Rights), ensuring regular monitoring, reporting, and coordination with the Directorate General.
The session concluded with active participation and valuable feedback from attendees, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing responsible business practices and strengthening human rights compliance across the province.
