Peshawar: Prof. Dr. Sarzamin Khan has assumed charge as Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Peshawar.
Previously, he served as Pro Vice Chancellor of the University and also held key positions including Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences and Chairman of the Department of Poultry Science.
A senior academician and experienced administrator, Prof. Khan has made significant contributions to teaching, research, and university administration. He has actively participated in and led various academic and administrative committees.
The faculty and staff have congratulated him on his new role and expressed confidence that the University will continue to progress in academic and research fields under his leadership.
Prof. Khan is currently serving as Professor of Livestock Management and is a distinguished researcher in Animal and Poultry Sciences. He also serves as Controller of the Avian Disease Diagnostic and Research Laboratory, visiting expert with the Wildlife Department (Avian Section), and head of the Biosecurity Expert Panel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
With around 29 years of experience, including 12 years in leadership roles, his research focuses on poultry production, alternative protein sources, avian diseases, biosecurity, animal breeding, and sustainable livestock systems.
He obtained his DVM from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and completed his MSc (Hons) and PhD in Animal Sciences from the University of Agriculture Peshawar. He also conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and the University of Minnesota, USA, including a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship.
During his career, he has supervised 20 PhD and over 150 MS students and has published more than 120 research papers, including many in international journals. He has also authored several books and manuals.
He has developed six patents submitted for registration and completed 15 research projects. Recently, he contributed to the development of a local vaccine against Infectious Bronchitis Virus (IBV) in collaboration with international partners.
Among his notable innovations is an Organic Mycotoxins Detoxifier, expected to enhance the safety and quality of livestock products.
Prof. Khan has received several awards, including the PCST Productive Scientist Award, HEC Best University Teacher Award, and the Fulbright Fellowship.
He has also introduced key innovations in livestock and poultry farming, including artificial insemination technology, biogas energy models, and alternative protein research.
Expressing gratitude to the provincial government, Prof. Khan said his efforts would focus on promoting agriculture, livestock, and environmentally sustainable farming systems.
