DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A special ceremony was organized in Juma Sharif village of Tehsil Parwa under the auspices of the Border Rural Support Program (BRSP) and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) to mark World Environment Day.

District Monitoring Officer Zubair Khan attended the event as chief guest, while Environmental Officer Yousuf Malik, District Program Manager Babar Qaiser Qureshi, and local elders also addressed the gathering.

Speakers highlighted the growing impact of global climate change on Pakistan and stressed the need for practical and effective measures to address environmental challenges. They emphasized the importance of large-scale tree plantation, preventing unnecessary deforestation, and raising public awareness about environmentally friendly practices.

The participants were urged to play their role in reducing environmental pollution, with speakers warning that failure to take timely action could leave future generations facing serious environmental consequences.

On the occasion, a protective embankment constructed to safeguard Juma Sharif village, nearby settlements, and agricultural lands from flood risks was formally inaugurated. The project is expected to provide protection to local communities and farmlands from potential flood damage.

Residents of the area appreciated the efforts of the Border Rural Support Program and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund for completing the embankment project and organizing the World Environment Day awareness event. They described both initiatives as positive steps toward public welfare, environmental protection, and the development of the region.
