Karachi: In a unique tribute to the timeless sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala, the Who Is Hussain Pakistan – Karachi Chapter has once again combined remembrance with environmental responsibility through its annual plantation campaign, “Aik Darakht Hussain Ke Naam”.
Launched in 2020, the initiative has grown into a meaningful tradition that promotes both the message of Imam Hussain (AS) and the importance of protecting the environment. This year’s campaign was held from 2nd Muharram to 8th Muharram at six locations across Karachi, including Al Mohsin Hall, New Rizvia Society, Amroha Society, Jafar Tayar, DHA Phase VIII and Soldier Bazaar.
Speaking about the initiative, the Media Coordinator of Who Is Hussain Pakistan, Syed Kazim Mehdi, said the response from the public has grown significantly over the years. He shared that while more than 6,000 saplings were distributed during last year’s campaign, the number exceeded 10,000 this year, reflecting increasing public interest in environmental conservation.
The campaign featured a diverse range of plants, including Jamun, Peepal, Neem, Moringa, Gulmohar, Badam and various ornamental species. Around 130 volunteers participated in the week-long drive, ensuring the smooth distribution of plants across all six locations.
Organizers said the campaign is inspired by the values of Imam Hussain (AS), whose legacy continues to encourage compassion, service to humanity and responsibility toward society. They added that as the world confronts the growing challenges of climate change, tree plantation has become a shared responsibility and such initiatives help create awareness while contributing to a cleaner, greener and eco-friendly environment for future generations.
Through Aik Darakht Hussain Ke Naam, the organization hopes every sapling planted will serve as a living tribute to Imam Hussain (AS), symbolizing hope, resilience and a collective commitment to preserving the environment while carrying forward the message of humanity and selfless service.
