PESHAWAR : A high-level National Lobbying Delegation (NLD) for Minority Rights on yesterday met the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Governor’s House, urging him to grant early assent to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hindu Marriage Act 2026 (KPHMAA-2026) to ensure its prompt implementation.

Led by Anthony Naveed, Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, the delegation thanked the Governor for the unanimous passage of the Bill by the Provincial Assembly and requested that the assent process be completed without delay.

The delegation said the Act is a landmark piece of legislation that will provide legal recognition to Hindu marriages, ensure compulsory marriage registration, strengthen legal protection for women and children, and facilitate linkage with NADRA for CNICs, inheritance, and other legal documentation.

The Governor welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the significance of the legislation in protecting the constitutional rights of religious minorities. He assured the delegation of his full support for the timely processing of the Bill and its effective implementation.

Speaking on the occasion, Anthony Naveed said the passage of the Act reflected the inclusive vision of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and urged the Governor to expedite his assent so that the Hindu community could benefit from the law without further delay.

Haroon Sarab Diyal, Focal Person for National Lobbying for Minority Rights, said the legislation had ended decades of legal uncertainty for Hindus in the province. He thanked the Governor, the Chief Minister, the Speaker, and members of the Provincial Assembly for supporting the Bill and said the NLD was ready to assist the government in framing implementation rules and launching a public awareness campaign.

The delegation also included Krishan Sharma, Pushpa Kumari, Romana Bashir, Atif Jamil Paggan, and Jai Parkash Moorani.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hindu Marriage Act 2026 and promoting the protection of minority rights in Pakistan.
