PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will rebuild houses destroyed in recent floods and provide compensation for losses to property, livestock, and businesses, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced on Wednesday. Presiding over the 37th meeting of the provincial cabinet, the chief minister said data on damages was being collected and assured that no victim would be left without compensation. The meeting began with Fateha for those who lost their lives in the disaster. Officials briefed the cabinet on flood damages, ongoing relief operations, and rehabilitation efforts. Gandapur praised the timely response of the district administration, rescue agencies, and other relevant departments, calling their performance “excellent.” It was informed that the first phase of rescue operations has been completed, while the search for missing persons continues. Compensation payments to families of those killed or injured in the floods are underway. The chief minister directed that health centers in affected areas be activated immediately, with medicines and mobile hospitals made available. He emphasized preventive measures against possible epidemics, provision of fodder for livestock, and cleanliness campaigns to restore safe drinking water sources. Gandapur said rehabilitation of damaged communication roads should be expedited. He announced that additional officers are being deployed to accelerate relief and rehabilitation work. The provincial government has released an additional Rs 2 billion for flood relief, in addition to the Rs 3 billion already disbursed. A special donation account will also be opened to ensure transparency. “The government is determined to put its people back on their feet,” Gandapur said, assuring that maximum relief will be provided to the affected population.
