Karachi: Academic excellence and women’s empowerment took centre stage as Jinnah University for Women conferred degrees upon 1,443 graduates during its 23rd Annual Convocation, celebrating the achievements of students across diverse academic disciplines. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Sindh, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi as the chief guest. Among the graduating class, four students were awarded PhD degree, ten received MPhil degree while 44 graduates were honoured with gold medals in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.

Welcoming the guests, Chancellor Wajeehuddin Ahmed reflected on the institution’s legacy. He shared that his father had received personal permission from Muhammad Ali Jinnah to name the institution “Jinnah”. He noted that Jinnah University for Women was established as Pakistan’s first women’s university and continues to provide quality higher education at affordable tuition fees, enabling thousands of young women to pursue academic and professional success. He added that every year, hundreds of graduates leave the university to serve the country in a wide range of professions.

Addressing the convocation, Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi emphasized that education and women’s empowerment are essential pillars for national progress. He said that receiving a degree should not be viewed as the culmination of academic life but as the beginning of greater responsibilities. He urged the graduates to uphold integrity, pursue lifelong learning and use their education to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s social and economic development. Highlighting the growing role of women in leadership, the governor said that women are making remarkable contributions across every sector of society.

The convocation concluded with Governor Sindh and Chancellor presenting degrees, gold medals and academic honours to the graduating students.
