PESHAWAR: The International Max Martial Arts Championship featuring athletes from Pakistan and Afghanistan officially commenced at the PSB Hall, Peshawar Sports Complex, with Advisor to Sports and Youth Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, inaugurating the event.
The championship has brought together numerous national and international martial arts players from both countries, providing a valuable platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills and gain international-level competitive experience.
During the opening ceremony, Advisor Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand warmly welcomed the Afghan contingent and honored the visiting players by presenting them with traditional Chitrali caps. Among those present on the occasion were Assistant Director Shah Faisal, President of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ju-Jitsu Association Tahsinullah, KP Max Martial Arts President Salahuddin Kamal, General Secretary Aali Gul Afridi, Organizing Secretary Noman, Humayun Khan, Deputy Director Shakur Khan, Administrator Yousaf Afridi, and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the participants, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand said it was encouraging to see athletes from the brotherly Islamic country of Afghanistan participating in the championship. He expressed hope that similar competitions in various sports would continue between the two neighboring countries, providing young athletes with opportunities to showcase and enhance their talents.
He particularly appreciated the participation of both male and female athletes in the event and encouraged players to work diligently to bring pride to their country and nation. He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to supporting athletes and promoting sports development across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The adviser noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has consistently produced talented athletes who have represented Pakistan with distinction at national and international levels, describing the province as a fertile ground for sporting excellence.

Speaking to reporters, KP Max Martial Arts Association President Salahuddin Kamal and General Secretary Aali Gul Afridi stated that the primary objective of organizing the championship is to prepare local athletes for future international competitions, including the Asian Games. They emphasized that competing against international-level athletes would significantly improve the skills and confidence of Pakistani players.
The competitions are being supervised by internationally licensed referees Dilawar Khan Sannan and Abu Hurairah, ensuring adherence to international standards.
Afghan players Najibullah, Khabir Dilawar, and Zakir Khan expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the excellent arrangements and hospitality extended to the visiting delegation. They said both teams were fully prepared and anticipated exciting and highly competitive contests throughout the championship.
