KOHAT: Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Kohat said it had successfully completed its special Eid-ul-Adha Sanitation Campaign, collecting and environmentally disposing of 2,310 tonnes of animal waste during a 3-day operation across the city and adjoining areas.
The company said sanitation and water supply services remained uninterrupted throughout the Eid Holidays, with nearly 400 sanitation workers and administrative staff deployed across six urban union councils and the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) areas.
A fleet of 90 vehicles, including mini tippers, garbage compactors, tractor trolleys, skip tractors, tractor shovels and excavators, was used to carry out the large-scale cleanup operation.
The campaign was formally launched on the first day of Eid by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan along with the Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir and WSSC Kohat Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Saad at Sanghir School No. 3. Board Member Ehsanullah Jan and Head of Operations Tahir Afif were also present.
According to WSSC Kohat, 253 collection points and 22 transfer stations were established to facilitate the disposal of sacrificial waste. Around 3,000 biodegradable bags were distributed among the residents to ensure the safe collection and handling of animal remains.
The company said it also conducted awareness campaigns through social media, banners and pamphlets to inform the residents about waste disposal arrangements ahead of Eid.
Officials reported that the initial cleanup operation was completed by midnight on the first day of Eid, while all 15 complaints received through the company’s complaint cell during the 3-day period were addressed promptly.
Collected waste was transported to the Mohammadzai dumping site, where it was disposed of in pre-prepared pits using environmentally friendly methods. Collection points were subsequently washed with disinfectants and treated with lime to prevent the spread of germs and odors.
Muhammad Saad, Acting CEO of WSSC Kohat, said the campaign’s success was made possible through the cooperation of residents, media organizations, the business community and relevant government departments.
Residents also praised the sanitation drive, sharing video messages and social media posts commending the efforts of frontline sanitation workers who remained on duty throughout the Eid Holidays.
