PROVINCE REPORT
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ikhtiar Wali Khan on Thursday urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) to support a Charter of Democracy, saying the country’s recent successes were achieved through unity and cooperation.
Speaking to a local media outlet, he backed Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s proposal for dialogue and urged PTI to focus on the national interest rather than jail politics.
He said criticism of the government was acceptable, but there could be no compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty or core national interests.
Ikhtiar Wali Khan maintained that the government and the armed forces had jointly led the country toward diplomatic and strategic success, adding that the endeavours of the both military and the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif deserved due recognition.
Concluding his remarks, he urged PTI to move beyond criticism and sit at the negotiating table, saying political parties should engage in dialogue and work together to strengthen democracy and serve the country’s interests.
