PESHAWAR : Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson and senior lawyer Moazzam Butt has called for comprehensive political reforms, suggesting that Pakistan should consider adopting a presidential system to overcome political instability and improve governance.
In a statement, Butt said the country could no longer afford prolonged political uncertainty, power struggles and undemocratic rule. He stressed the need for a merit-based, transparent and accountable political system that prioritised national interests over regional, ethnic and personal considerations.
He urged political parties to strengthen internal democracy and ensure merit-based leadership selection, while calling on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to play a more effective role in ensuring transparency and democratic practices within political organisations.
Expressing concern over the prevailing political situation, he said the parliamentary system required meaningful reforms to prevent political confrontation and instability. He also emphasised that all individuals and groups must respect the Constitution and be dealt with according to law.
Butt maintained that political stability, strong democratic institutions and transparent electoral processes were essential for effective governance and a stronger democracy in Pakistan.
