Government Calls for Responsible Reporting on Security
PROVINCE REPORT
PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs, Tariq Saeed Marwat, has dismissed reports circulating on social media and in certain sections of the media regarding the alleged approval of a new military operation in eight districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing them as baseless, misleading and factually incorrect.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Marwat clarified that the provincial government has not approved any new military operation in the districts of Khyber, Tank, Kurram, Bajaur, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and North and South Waziristan. He urged the public to avoid relying on rumours and unverified reports and instead trust only information issued through official and authentic sources.
He also rejected claims linking recent budget allocations to a proposed military operation, explaining that the funds allocated under relevant budget heads are intended for emergency response, natural disasters, possible displacement, relief, rehabilitation and other administrative contingencies. Associating these allocations with the launch of a new military operation, he said, is a clear misinterpretation of the facts.
Marwat said the provincial government remains in close coordination with all relevant institutions to maintain law and order, safeguard the lives and property of citizens, and ensure timely relief and rehabilitation wherever required. He emphasized that all government decisions are taken in accordance with the law, the national interest and the welfare of the people.
The Special Assistant appealed to the public and media organizations to act responsibly by verifying information before sharing it, warning that the spread of rumours and misinformation creates unnecessary fear and anxiety among citizens. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and urged people to rely solely on official channels for updates on security-related matters.
