An open court was held at Central Jail Peshawar to provide prisoners with free legal assistance, facilitate the prompt resolution of their issues, and ensure greater access to justice. Senior officials from the Prisons Department, the Prosecution Directorate, and other relevant institutions attended the event and listened to prisoners’ legal and administrative concerns.
Among those present were Inspector General of Prisons Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rehan Gul Khattak, Director General Prosecution Muhammad Rafiq Khan, Director Legal Mian Aziz, DIG Judicial Amin Shoaib, DIG Prisons Peshawar Region Baitullah Khan, District Public Prosecutor Javed, and other concerned officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent Central Jail Peshawar Muhammad Wasim Khan briefed participants on the objectives of the initiative, stating that the purpose of the open court was to provide prisoners with guidance regarding their legal rights and to offer an effective platform for addressing their grievances.
Prisoners presented various issues related to their cases, legal assistance, and administrative matters before the officials. Director General Prosecution Muhammad Rafiq Khan assured them that prosecution-related matters would be addressed on a priority basis. He also announced the appointment of prosecution representatives in jails across the province to provide legal assistance to inmates.
Inspector General of Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak reaffirmed the department’s commitment to safeguarding prisoners’ legal rights, welfare, and rehabilitation. He stated that such forums play a vital role in improving prisoners’ access to justice and ensuring the effective redressal of their complaints. He further noted that the Prisons Department continues to implement practical reforms aimed at rehabilitation and the protection of human rights.
At the conclusion of the open court, participants described the initiative as a positive and effective step toward resolving prisoners’ issues, strengthening legal assistance mechanisms, and enhancing confidence in the justice system.
