PESHAWAR: A trade delegation led by Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, Senior Vice President of the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI), met with Iranian Consul General in Peshawar, His Excellency Ali Banafahekhah, to discuss bilateral trade and commerce activities following the signing of the MOU between the United States and Iran.

The delegation, which included former office-bearers of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), held detailed discussions on expanding economic cooperation and strengthening trade relations between Pakistan and Iran.

During the meeting, Consul General Ali Banafahekhah warmly congratulated Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi on receiving the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz from the President of Pakistan in recognition of his outstanding achievements as a columnist and his contributions to trade and economic development.

The participants exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral trade cooperation and highlighted the vast opportunities that could emerge once US sanctions on Iran are lifted. Delegates, particularly Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, presented several recommendations aimed at boosting trade and investment between the two neighboring countries.

The meeting agreed on the following key proposals:

1. Establishment of a Joint Chamber of Commerce between Pakistan and Iran.
2. Signing of a Transit Trade Agreement to facilitate smoother movement of goods between the two countries.
3. Efforts by both governments to conclude a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which would benefit industries and traders on both sides, enhance regional connectivity, reduce dependence on distant markets, and promote cost-effective transportation.

Participants expressed optimism that stronger economic ties and enhanced trade frameworks would pave the way for greater regional prosperity and cooperation.
