PESHAWAR: Women from different walks of life participated in a special trip of the BRT Peshawar Pink Bus Service following its launch, welcoming the women-only transport facility as a positive step towards providing safe, reliable and dignified public transport in the provincial capital.
The inaugural trip was attended by Senator Rubina Naz, Provincial Ombudsperson Rubab Mehdi, Secretary of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women (KPCSW) Shazia Atta, former Member of the Provincial Assembly Rabia Basri and Principal of Frontier College for Women Dr. Shaheen Umar, besides lawyers, students, social workers and doctors.
The participants appreciated the Pink Bus Service, describing it as a safe, reliable and quality transport facility specifically designed to meet the mobility needs of women.
They said the dedicated bus service would make daily commuting easier for women and help improve their access to education, employment, healthcare and other professional and social activities across the city.
The women participants observed that providing a safe and dignified environment for women in public transport was an important need of the time, and the Pink Bus Service represented a positive development in this regard.
They said such facilities could help enhance women’s confidence and provide them with greater opportunities to participate effectively in social and economic activities.
The Pink Bus Service, introduced by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in Peshawar, aims to provide women with safe, reliable and dignified public transport, enabling them to travel conveniently to different parts of the city.
