TP REPORT

PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), through its Merged Areas Branch and Migration and Displacement Unit at National Headquarters, is leading a comprehensive humanitarian response to address the urgent needs of Afghan nationals returning through border crossings at Torkham and Chaman.

With increased movement of vulnerable populations, including women, children and the elderly, many returnees have faced challenges such as exhaustion, limited access to healthcare, safe drinking water, and protection risks during transit. PRCS, working in close coordination with its Movement partners and provincial branches, remains at the forefront of delivering timely, dignified and life-saving assistance.

Humanitarian Service Points at Torkham and a dedicated Medical Health Facility at Chaman are providing integrated support services, ensuring that essential care reaches those most in need at critical transit points.

PRCS health teams have delivered primary healthcare services to over 116,000 individuals, including psychosocial support to more than 18,800 people, while ambulances have supported emergency referrals. In the WASH sector, over 906,000 litres of safe drinking water have been provided, with more than 35,000 individuals reached through hygiene promotion sessions and improved sanitation facilities at border sites.

Protection remains a key priority, with safe spaces established for women and children. Over 15,000 dignity kits have been distributed alongside menstrual hygiene management (MHM) sessions, while more than 6,600 children have participated in structured child-friendly activities designed to provide psychosocial comfort and emotional support during transit.

Under the Restoring Family Links (RFL) programme, PRCS has conducted more than 1,600 tracing and RFL sessions, reaching over 35,000 individuals. The initiative has also supported 10 family reunifications, along with the installation of solar-powered charging booths to help restore communication between separated families.

Through Migration and Humanitarian Service Point services, PRCS continues to provide integrated assistance at border crossings, combining health, protection, WASH, RFL and information services under one coordinated response mechanism. Feedback systems are actively engaged to ensure accountability and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Honorable Chairperson PRCS, Mrs. Farzhana Naek, praised the dedicated efforts of teams on the ground and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to humanitarian action.

“PRCS is proud to be leading from the front in responding to the humanitarian needs of Afghan returnees at Torkham, Chaman and other crossing points. Our teams are working day and night to ensure that vulnerable families receive timely assistance, care and protection. I extend my sincere gratitude to all Movement partners including IFRC, ICRC, Norwegian Red Cross and British Red Cross for their continued support. PRCS will continue to strengthen and expand its services to mitigate human suffering and uphold dignity at every step of this journey,” she stated.

PRCS remains committed to standing with affected communities, ensuring that humanitarian assistance continues in a coordinated, compassionate and effective manner.
