NEW YORK: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a meeting in New York on September 24 on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two foreign ministers discussed current regional and international issues, with particular focus on developments concerning Iran.
According to the Russian side, the ministers stressed that there was no alternative to a diplomatic settlement of the crisis, which they attributed to what they described as unlawful actions by the United States and Israel.
The sides also discussed implementation of bilateral agreements reached during the September 1, 2026 meeting between the Russian and Iranian presidents in Bishkek.
Lavrov and Araghchi further reviewed the schedule of upcoming contacts between Russia and Iran at various levels.
