ISLAMABAD : Advocate Sardar Waqar Shahzad attended a reception in Islamabad yesterday to commemorate the 58th Anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The reception was hosted at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel by H.E. Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines and Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI), on behalf of the Heads of Mission of ASEAN member states in Islamabad.

The gathering brought together diplomats, senior government officials, civil society representatives and members of the legal fraternity. The event underscored ASEAN’s longstanding commitment to regional cooperation, peace, friendship, cultural exchange and stronger diplomatic relations.

Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Waqar Shahzad said it was an honour to join the celebrations marking 58 years of ASEAN. He appreciated the spirit of unity, diplomacy and cultural understanding demonstrated by the ASEAN community and highlighted the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties between ASEAN member states and Pakistan.

Sardar Waqar Shahzad also expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez and the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad for their warm hospitality and kind invitation.

The reception featured cultural performances and remarks highlighting the growing cooperation and close people-to-people connections between ASEAN countries and Pakistan.

The event concluded on a positive note, reflecting the shared commitment to promoting friendship, dialogue and mutually beneficial relations between Pakistan and the ASEAN community.
