The most crucial elements of any drama are a compelling story and strong central characters, as these engage viewers and encourage emotional investment. Unfortunately, the Pashto web drama Wasiyat, written by Mohammad Munir and directed by Jahangir Shah, completely lacked these fundamentals.
The storyline felt superficial and illogical, while the main character, played by newcomer Sikandar Khan, appeared weak and devoid of emotion, making it difficult for viewers to connect with him. Among the cast, only Naik Khan delivered a decent performance, yet even his role lacked depth and clarity. Farah Khan’s acting showed no significant intensity or nuance. Supporting actors like Sidra Ali, Ismail Shad, and Wasima Khan performed adequately, but their characters were not particularly memorable.
Other elements, such as dialogues, plot twists, and conflicts, were ineffective. For instance, the hatred shown by the sister-in-law toward her brother-in-law had no clear motivation, and the character portrayed as mentally unstable was not convincingly depicted.
Despite a limited budget and resources, a stronger script, refined dialogues, and focused acting could have made the drama far more engaging. Future projects should consider casting experienced actors for lead roles, portraying character psychology and relationships logically, and incorporating meaningful plot twists and conflicts.
Overall, Wasiyat stands as an experiment that, despite resource constraints, falters due to a lack of foundational dramatic elements.
