PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Interior and Tribal Affairs, Tariq Saeed Khan Marwat, paid his first official visit to the Interior Department after assuming office and issued important directives aimed at strengthening law and order, prison reforms, and public security across the province.

During the visit, he was given a comprehensive briefing on the department’s functions, administrative structure, security challenges, and ongoing initiatives. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Interior Akramullah, Secretary Security Usman Mehsud, Special Secretary Shagufta Naveed, Additional Secretary Police Dr. Qasim Khan, Additional Secretary FSC, Additional Secretary Prisons Irfanullah Mehsud, Gul Bano, Deputy Secretary Jibril Raza, and other senior officials.

Officials briefed the Special Assistant on the overall law and order situation, counter-terrorism efforts, and security challenges facing the province. Expressing concern over recent terrorist incidents, particularly in southern and newly merged districts, Tariq Marwat directed authorities to adopt more effective measures to ensure peace, stability, and the protection of lives and property.

He instructed officials to prepare a proposal for establishing a Medico-Legal Directorate within the Interior Department to modernize and strengthen the criminal justice system.

The Special Assistant also expressed concern over the nearly 91 percent ratio of undertrial prisoners in jails and directed that the matter be taken up with the Registrar of the Peshawar High Court to explore effective remedial measures.

Regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees, he emphasized that the process should be carried out in accordance with the law, human dignity, and fundamental rights, while ensuring the provision of all necessary facilities.

Tariq Marwat further stressed the need to strengthen the probation system in line with international standards and directed the relevant authorities to take practical steps in this regard. He also ordered strict implementation of the recent Peshawar High Court decision in its true letter and spirit.

Reaffirming his commitment to improving governance, Tariq Saeed Khan Marwat said that all available resources would be utilized to make the Interior Department more efficient, effective, and people-friendly, thereby further strengthening law and order, the rule of law, and public security in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
