Karachi: The District West Police released their six-month performance report, highlighting significant progress in the fight against violent crime, narcotics, gutka and mawa mafias, smuggling and street crime. During the first half of the year, police registered 3113 cases and arrested 2930 suspects involved in various criminal activities, reflecting an intensified drive to strengthen law enforcement across the district.
According to the report, the achievements were made under the directives of SSP West Tariq Ilahi Mastoi, who ordered sustained, intelligence-based and indiscriminate operations against criminal elements, drug traffickers, smugglers and street criminals.
The report states that police registered 133 cases of murder, attempted murder and murder committed during robbery over the past six months. As a result of targeted operations, 123 suspects allegedly involved in these serious offences were arrested. Action against robbery and street crime also remained a priority. Police registered 188 robbery cases and arrested 176 suspects, recovering illegal weapons and stolen property during the operations.
The anti-narcotics campaign yielded substantial results with 296 drug peddlers arrested and 214 cases registered. Police recovered more than 63 kilograms of hashish over seven kilograms of crystal, 22 kilograms of cannabis more than half a kilogram of crystal and heroin and 82 bottles of liquor during raids conducted across the district.
The report further highlighted decisive action against the gutka and mawa mafia. Police sealed 15 major gutka manufacturing units, arrested 399 suspects and registered 310 cases. Raids led to the seizure of 3869 kilograms of prepared gutka and mawa, 3724 kilograms of betel nut, 7367 packets of foreign-made gutka.
Operations against smuggling networks also intensified during the reporting period. Police arrested 170 alleged smugglers and registered 51 cases while 87 cases were referred to Customs authorities for further legal proceedings. Recoveries included 7575 kilograms of chhalia, 1350 kilograms of gutka, 5864 packets of foreign-made gutka and 14528 litres of smuggled diesel. Police also impounded 127 vehicles allegedly used in smuggling activities.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Sindh Police has directed all police formations across the province to intensify efforts against oil theft under a zero-tolerance policy. The IGP made it clear that no individual involved in the illegal trade would be shown any leniency and instructed officers to continue coordinated, effective and result-oriented operations to curb the crime.
