PESHAWAR : The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority (KPFS&HFA) has carried out major operations across multiple districts, continuing its crackdown against substandard and unsafe food. During actions in Peshawar, Nowshera, Malakand and Swat, more than 4,000 kilograms of adulterated and unhygienic food items were confiscated and destroyed, while several units were sealed and heavy fines imposed on violators.
According to the Food Authority spokesperson, joint food safety teams in Peshawar conducted a major operation and raided an unregistered and illegal unit in Dir Colony, where unhygienic margarine and dairy cream were being repacked. During the raid, 1,500 kilograms of foul-smelling and contaminated margarine were seized and destroyed. Chemical drums and freezers were also taken into custody, while the unit owners were fined and further legal proceedings have been initiated.
Similarly, in Nowshera, food safety teams inspected various businesses in the Amangarh area. A ghee mill was fined over violations of hygiene standards, lack of medical certificates, and the use of expired chemicals. In Amankot and Pabbi, inspections of ice cream units led to the confiscation and destruction of 847 kilograms of mislabeled ice candies, and one unit was sealed, with further action underway.
The spokesperson further stated that in Dargai, district Malakand, a food safety team raided an ice cream production unit where locally manufactured ice cream was being packed in branded wrappers. The wrappers were seized, and 1,500 kilograms of substandard and unsafe ice cream were destroyed. A heavy fine was also imposed on the owner.
In Swat, the food safety team, in coordination with the district administration, carried out operations in Khwazakhela Bazaar, inspecting meat, kebab, grocery and vegetable vendors. During the inspections, 80 kilograms of unsafe minced meat and 6 kilograms of China salt were confiscated and destroyed.
Director General KP Food Authority, Kashif Iqbal Jillani, praised the performance of the teams and reiterated that indiscriminate action against substandard and hazardous food items will continue across the province, adding that no compromise will be made on public health.
