CHAKDARA: A new step towards combating drug addiction was taken with the inauguration of Marwan Drug Hospital in Kulabad, Chakdara. The facility formally began operations following an enthusiastic ceremony attended by political, social, and administrative figures, along with a large number of local elders.
Prominent attendees included MD Ehtisham-ul-Haq, Assistant Commissioner Swat Syed Sardar Badshah, patron Liaqat-ul-Mulk, DSP Adinzai Muhammad Zaman, businessman Arshad Khan, Advocate Alamzeb Khan, Vice Chairman Maulana Kaleemullah, Naeemullah Khan (PPP), and Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chairman Maulana Kaleemullah highlighted that Chairman Haji Abdul Wahab established the Al-Marwan Welfare Foundation out of compassion for humanity, particularly the underprivileged. He stated that the hospital aims to provide effective treatment to drug addicts and rehabilitate them into responsible and respectable members of society. He further shared that qualified doctors and trained staff will serve at the facility, with future plans including the establishment of an orphanage.
Patron Liaqat-ul-Mulk emphasized that the institution is dedicated to serving marginalized communities, noting that with millions affected by drug addiction in Pakistan, the hospital represents a beacon of hope.
Assistant Commissioner Swat Syed Sardar Badshah praised the initiative, calling it a true example of public welfare, and urged citizens to support such efforts. Other speakers, including Naeemullah Khan and Fazal Ahad of Qaumi Jirga Swat, appreciated the foundation’s services and stressed collective responsibility in tackling drug abuse.
Speakers expressed concern over the rising use of drugs, particularly “ice,” and called for better parental guidance, community awareness, and coordinated efforts to eliminate the menace. They emphasized the need for compassionate treatment of patients to preserve their dignity.
The ceremony concluded with appreciation for the humanitarian efforts of Al-Marwan Welfare Foundation and a renewed commitment to jointly fight against drug addiction in society.
